NORFOLK - After being delayed more than a month, the reconstruction of Braasch Avenue is underway in Norfolk.

The project was originally set for early April, but was delayed to allow the suppliers and contractors additional time to stockpile construction materials, as well as aid the City in responding to the COVID-19 pandemic. Reconstruction began on Monday, and the roadway is expected to be closed for the next three months.

The City of Norfolk says north and south traffic on 1st street will be maintained throughout the project, but may be reduced to one lane in each direction during portions of the reconstruction. The project stems from a Department of Economic Development Community Development Block Grant awarded to the City.

The project will include three phases, all of which include utility, paving, and landscaping work, and more details will be provided for future closures as construction progresses.
