STANTON COUNTY - A Pilger man will spend at least the next four years in prison on weapons charges.

The Stanton County Sheriff's Office says Monday that 27-year-old Cody Murphree has been sentenced to 4 to 8 years in prison on charges of possession of a stolen firearm by a felon.

Authorities say he was arrested by the Stanton County Sheriff’s Office last year following a traffic stop and search warrant at his home in Pilger where two stolen firearms and meth were recovered.

Murphree also faces additional felony charges following his March escape from the Thurston County jail and reported assault of two people in Stanton.

Authorities say his accomplice during the escape, 29-year-old Derek Pederson, remains in custody in Iowa pending extradition back to Nebraska.
