Boy Nearly Drowns at Maskenthine Lake

STANTON - Local law enforcement is investigating a near drowning at a northeast Nebraska Lake on Friday evening.

The Stanton County Sheriff's Office was called to Maskenthine Lake around 6 PM after a 15-year-old boy was rescued from the water by two of his friends.

When deputies arrived the boy was semi-alert and suffering from cold water exposure according to a press release.

The sheriff's office is reminding locals that the beach area is closed and that no one should have been in the water.

There have been five prior drownings at the lake in the past 20 years and the sheriff's office is asking everyone to use vigilance and extra precautions when in the water and especially to not enter the water that is posted as off limits.
