BEATRICE – Officers from several agencies were involved in a high-speed pursuit of a pickup, whose driver was initially observed speeding, through Beatrice.

The driver of the white, Ford-F-250 pickup was clocked traveling 60-miles-per-hour in a 25-mile-per-hour zone on South 6th Street, near the Dempster Industries Building in south Beatrice.

Chief of Police Bruce Lang says police pursued the driver south on U.S. 77, out of Beatrice, at speeds topping 100-miles-per-hour.

The pursuit also traveled Highway 112, went through Wymore and eventually onto Nebraska Highway 8, where the pursuit was discontinued for safety reasons.

Lang says agencies involved in the incident were Beatrice Police, Gage County Sheriff’s Office, Wymore Police and Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

Most of the pursuit took place on highways, but the pickup driver did drive down a muddy road for a period of time.

Lang said the pursuit began at around 11:30 Friday night and there was light traffic at the time, but he said persons like the driver, “put people in great danger”….regardless of when the pursuit occurs.

The suspect has not been located.
