Burroughs Garners Gold at Pan American Championships
OTTAWA, Canada -- Former Husker and current U.S. World Team member Jordan Burroughs defeated 2011 World silver medalist Franklin Gomez of Puerto Rico 8-1 on Monday to win his fourth Pan-American Championship.
Burroughs used a takedown and turn to punctuate a 10-0 tech fall victory over Jorge Llano of Argentina in Monday's first round. The former Husker grappler and 2012 Olympic champion had a tougher time with Jeandry Garzon Caballero of Cuba in the semifinal, but was still able to carve out a 3-0 victory.
In the final, Burroughs faced a familiar foe in Gomez. The two had previously grappled at the 2019 Pan Am Championships and 2019 Pan American Games. The four-time World champion defeated Gomez on both occasions and added a third head-to-head victory on Monday.
In addition to his World and Olympic medals, Burroughs is a three-time Pan Am Games champ.
