Nebraska City- Nebraska City High School Senior Mara Davis has signed to play basketball with Northland Community and Technical College in East Grand Forks Minnesota.

Davis has battled through some tough injuries in her career but has strived to overcome them.  She and her father Paul Davis spoke about moving on through the adversity to the next chapter in her career.

“It’s been kind of a long four years.  Freshman year I ended up tearing my ACL so I couldn’t play, but then I came back Sophomore and Junior year.  Then the start of my Senior season I tore my ACL again, so I was out for the season.”

“It has been a rough road for her, we’re excited for the next chapter that hopefully will really take her to the next level of play, and she can enjoy the game again and have fun, injury free hopefully.”

Davis and her father say when signing to Northland that she was nervous about the distance from home, but the coaching staff made them feel comfortable.

“I was nervous about the distance.  I went up this past summer, and visited campus, met the coaches, and one of the teammates she toured me around the school.  It feels like everyone is really close there, and Coach Shannon made me feel comfortable talking to her.  Letting me know just because I’ve been injured this season that we’ll get past that.”

“I think it’s great, look forward to taking it to the next level, and like she said it was nice to see the coach even after she got hurt still continued to follow her, and check up on her on a regular basis.  So that was really nice.  That really felt comfortable to us, and comfortable to her. That’s what really helped make that decision.  Plus that Northland Community College is a really successful program; they’ve done really well at the Community College level. We’re excited about it".
