SIDNEY, NE - KSID and News Channel Nebraska now have more information regarding the reports of counterfeit bills being passed in Sidney.

Sidney Police Chief Joe Aikens says two local businesses have been affected. 

In one case, the business was going through finances and preparing to take a deposit to a bank when it discovered the fake bill.

In the other, another local business took money to be deposited to Points West Bank in Sidney. When the bank was processing the deposit, they discovered the counterfeit currency. In that case, the counterfeit bill was a $50 bill. 

The first incident was reported to police on Wednesday, the second was reported Thursday. 

Aikens says Sidney police are investigating and are notifying the Secret Service of the bills. He warns residents and businesses to double check currency before accepting cash.
