WASHINGTON D.C. - Nebraska lawmakers are reacting to the Senate vote to acquit President Donald Trump.

The vote on Wednesday brought a close only the third presidential impeachment trial in American history.

Nebraska Senator Deb Fischer says the vote will allow the House and Senate to return to normal operations.

“After presenting an extraordinary amount of information over the past two weeks, the House managers failed to make a compelling case that the president should be removed from office. Therefore, I voted for his acquittal on both charges. It is now time for the Senate to move forward, return to normal legislative business, and advance policies that will make life better for Nebraskans and all Americans.” Fischer says.

Governor Pete Ricketts also issued a statement on the vote saying the Senate did the right thing and thanked the state senators for voting in favor of the president.
