Gering hires alum to run football program

GERING (KSNB) - Danny O'Boyle, a Gering High School graduate and former Chadron State football player, was named the new football coach at his former high school on Tuesday.
According to a news release from the school, O'Boyle was a standout athlete for the Bulldogs and Chadron State College. He played wide receiver all four years for the Eagles.
He takes over for Josh Hiatt who stepped down late last year. Danny is the son of former Bulldog coach, Tom O'Boyle.
"We are excited to have Danny back in the community and look forward to him coaching our football team," Gering Athletic Director Glen Koski said. "We know he will have a positive influence on the athletes in our football program and brings a great amount of experience and enthusiasm to the Bulldog community."
O'Boyle served as an assistant football coach and physical education teacher at Lee Williams High School in Arizona last season. He will finish the school year at Lee Williams before moving back to the Nebraska panhandle.
He's also served as an assistant coach for Gering, Scottsbluff and Chadron.
