Former Governor Dave Heineman is taking sides in a race for one of the state's premier education slots.

Heineman throwing his political weight behind Omaha lawyer and politician Mike Kennedy, a member of the Millard School Board and former member of the Metropolitan Community College Board.

Heineman's endorsement coming as 18-year Regent Howard Hawks has decided not to run for re-election for a fourth six-year term

Another possible candidate for the District 2 seat is Jack Stark, psychologist for Tom Osborne's National Champion Nebraska Cornhuskers football team in the late 80's and early 90's.

District two, one of eight slots on the board, covers most of Sarpy County and a part of Douglas County.
