BEATRICE - Local officials have approved an agreement between the city and Schemmer Associates, Inc., for the Beatrice Hannibal Park Trail. City Administrator Tobias Tempelmeyer showed the mayor and council Monday night a map of the trail’s location, which will extend from the Big Blue Water Park, east to the high school, then north to Hannibal Park.

"It goes behind a cemetery, through the YMCA property, cuts through some of the Flowing Springs property before it crosses Scott Street around 24th Street and then runs on the north side of Scott Street out to the high school. It will cross (the highway) at Orange Boulevard where the light is, before heading north". The trail will run along homes on Ella and Elk Street, near Christ Community Church, across state property at Beatrice State Developmental Center....and then to Hannibal Park.

Caspers Construction will build the trail, with construction expected to begin in July and be completed in November. Eighty-percent of the cost is paid through a federal and state grant, with the city’s share the remaining twenty-percent.

The city council also approved a $10,000 Beatrice Plus program grant to help finance a $40,000 unisex restroom facility at Sertoma-Astro Park, where a popular new splash pad was installed by the city last year.
