Lincoln, Neb.,-- The Nebraska women's tennis team opened up the 2020 season with a sweep over Sacramento State, 7-0. The Huskers went up 1-0 after earning the doubles point, followed by six consecutive singles victories.

Doubles:

Veteran Hayley Haakenstad teamed up with freshman Ellie Kuckelman to take over at No. 2, earning a 6-1 win. At No. 3 doubles, Emma Worley and Chloe Kuckelman raced to a 6-3 win to give NU the 1-0 advantage in the match.

Singles:

Playing out of the No. 1 spot in the lineup, 2019 All-Big Ten player Reifeis, defeated Sacramento State's Jenna Dorian.

Fellow senior Haakenstad defeated Paige Alter at the No. 5 spot 6-2, 6-1 putting the Huskers up 3-0 over the Hornets.

In her NU spring debut, Chloe Kuckelman came up big out of the No. 2 spot. The Overland Park, Kan., native defeated Jayden Nielsen in straight sets 6-1, 6-2 to clinch the match for the Big Red.

Ellie Kuckelman found her groove at the No. 4 spot, defeating Tsveti Yotova 6-3, 6-2, and on court 3, Jessica Aragon outlasted Ege Tomey 6-4, 6-3 giving NU a 6-0 advantage in the match.

Wrapping things up for NU was Worley. At the No. 6 spot, she took the first set over Grace Dodd in a tie-breaker. In the second set, Worley jumped out on top to get the 6-4 win, concluding the match with a 7-0 Husker win.

Today's afternoon's match vs. South Dakota is canceled due to weather. The Huskers will resume play next Friday, Jan. 24, at the Dillon Tennis Center, taking on Florida International at 5 p.m.
