Ricketts: $500 Million in Property Tax Relief Over Next Three Years
One day after state lawmakers unveiled their property tax relief plan for 2020, Governor Pete Ricketts has put his on the table.
In his 6th annual State of the State Address, Ricketts put property taxes as his top priority for 2020, followed by flood relief, tax relief for veterans and expanding the state's tight workforce.
The governor did not go into the details of his tax plan but did announce his bottom line: $500 million over three years.
The Revenue Committee's plan appears to be a bit more generous than the governor's.
Ricketts says he will be working closely with the Committee to find relief that "will make a difference" in the local property tax bills hitting farmers ,ranchers and homeowners.
The Committee's public hearing is expected sometime next week as lawmakers work to bring the tax proposal to the floor of the Legislature as soon as possible.
