Marcus Ehrke to take over Grand Island volleyball
Sidney High School will be searching for their second volleyball coach in two years.

SIDNEY - Sidney High School will be searching for their second volleyball coach in two years.
Marcus Ehrke announced his resignation to take the head coach position at Grand Island High School, a Class A school.
Ehrke says the decision came down to being closer to his two kids.
"It was something that I needed to change and any chance or opportunity I had to be closer to them, I was going to make sure that I did that," Ehrke said. "It was all a personal decision."
Ehrke guided the Red Raiders to a 32-4 record and a No. 3 seed in the Class B State Tournament in his lone season in Sidney. They lost to runner-up Duchesne in the first round, 3-0. It was their first trip to state since 2016.
"I built some really strong relationships with not only the girls, but parents, administrators and staff members," Ehrke said. "It's just a really great place to teach and coach. It's such a supportive community. I think that's the hardest part about leaving such a great community in Sidney."
Ehrke takes over an Islander program that finished 3-25 in 2019. They haven't been to the state tournament since 2013.
He will also serve as the school's physical education teacher.
