In the aftermath of President Trump’s decision to kill a top Iranian army leader, Omaha Congressman Don Bacon is defending the killing and sees no need to tie the president’s military hands.

Bacon, a retired one-star general and a Republican, is pushing back at Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s plan to limit Mr. Trump’s war powers.

Pelosi, who has called the killing of General Qassem Soleimani “disproportionate”, says the House of Representatives will vote soon on a resolution giving Congress a greater say on similar actions in the future.

“We were taking punches from this guy, me personally, for a decade and a half…As a retired service man, hearing the Speaker of the House say ‘it’s disproportionate’ killing Soliemani, a man who has the blood of 608 Americans on his hands, yea, yea that makes me angry.”

[According to Bacon, the killing was warranted because Soleimani has overseen the murder of 608 Americans in Iraq and recently directed rocket attacks on U.S. bases.]

Congressional hopeful Ann Ashford says “instead of focusing on (Speaker) Pelosi” Bacon should be focusing 100% on de-escalation…” the 2nd District Democrat adds Bacon should be “demanding clear-headed conscious foreign policy.”

Bacon: People like my opponents, right now the more they speak the more (Iran) feels like we’re a country divided and they can initiate aggressive action and we’ll be weaker.

NCN: Are you concerned about the possibility of being at war with Iran?

Rep. Bacon: I’m not comfortable with war. Yes, there’s a risk of escalation but at what point do you not defend yourself. There is a possibility of war. Iran will have to initiate it. They’ll get the worst of it. We could knock out their air force and navy in a day.

Remember when President Trump said his now impeachment resulting phone call with the Ukrainian president was perfect, well Congressman Bacon tells me the killing of Soleimani was perfect.
