STANTON COUNTY - A Norfolk teen was jailed over the weekend following a high-speed pursuit through multiple counties.

The Stanton County Sheriff's Office says deputies observed an SUV speeding on Highway 35 just north of Woodland Park around 2:30 AM Sunday morning. The vehicle was going 81 mph in a 60 mph zone, then fled at high speeds of over 105 mph into Wayne County.

The vehicle was pursued into Hoskins when it turned off its lights and continued to flee before being stopped after several more blocks on a residential street. The driver was identified as 19-year-old Damon Batenhorst of Norfolk, and he was arrested on charges of speeding 105/65, reckless driving, operating a motor vehicle to avoid arrest, and minor in possession/consumption of alcohol.

Two other passengers in his vehicle were also cited for MIP. Batenhorst was jailed pending the posting of a cash bond.
