SIDNEY - Vehicles sliding off roads and into ditches was a common theme Sunday due to snow, blowing snow and slick travel conditions.

The majority of Nebraska roads are at least partially snow- and ice-covered. Some roads in the central part of the state are currently impassable.

The Nebraska Department of Roads is pleading with drivers not to travel Sunday night because of the hazardous weather conditions.

"Wind will continue to blow and will continue to move snow across open stretches of roads," the DOT said. "If you can, please find a place to stay tonight."

Interstate 80 is closed or has lane restrictions in multiple locations as a result of crashes.

Patchy blowing snow is in the forecast across the state with 45 MPH wind gusts.

The Nebraska State Patrol is also advising to "hunker down and wait it out until the morning if you're on the road."
