Steve Schneider announces retirement from Peru State football
The Peru State College football team will have a new head coach for the first time since 2011.

PERU - The Peru State College football team will have a new head coach for the first time since 2011.
Steve Schneider announced his retirement Sunday night during the team's annual banquet.
"It’s been a blast the last 10 years working with all of you," Schneider said in an email to the Peru State Booster Club. "I value and appreciate all of the support you provide to players and the program. Once a BOBCAT always a BOBCAT!"
The Fremont, Neb. native accumulated a 39-49 record during his tenure with the Bobcats, including a 2-9 record this season.
Scheider served as the college's Athletic Director from 2009-2018, helping oversee the renovation of the Oak Bowl.
Prior to coming to Peru, Schneider coached Midland Lutheran College in Fremont from 1982 - 2007 and was the Director of Athletics for 14 years.
He guided the Warriors to the NAIA National Championship Playoffs and earned conference coach of the year honors in 1994. He was inducted into the school's hall of fame in 2015.
He served as the project manager for a $9 million dollar athletic facility expansion at Midland that was completed in 2006.
Schneider also played for the Midland football team from 1976-1979. He was a defensive lineman and helped lead the Warriors to three conference championships, and a 9-0 record and and a NAIA playoff berth in 1979.
He earned his physical education degree at Midland in 1980, and received a Masters Degree in Exercise Science from the University of Nebraska-Omaha in 1985.
