BEATRICE – Police and Beatrice Public School officials were trying to assure parents there is no danger to anyone, following a situation reported to Beatrice Middle School staff on Thursday about a student supposedly with a “hit list”.

No such list was recovered on Friday and Beatrice school officials made contact with “all impacted individuals”. A student was removed from the school as a safety precaution.
Beatrice Police were not commenting, pending investigation of the incident.

Beatrice School Superintendent Jason Alexander said late Friday afternoon....
"We received some information that we were concerned about. We reported that information immediately and have since turned it over to the police for further investigation. Right now, we can't say too much more about any details due to concerns about the situation, and more information will be provided when it becomes available".

Alexander says the district has policy provisions put in place to deal with such situations. Some parents came to school to get their children prior to dismissal of classes, but Alexander said it “pretty much did not impact dismissal…..it was on a case-by-case basis".

Alexander stated, "we do have a threat assessment team that works very closely together to assess and determine every threat that is made. We take it very seriously, and I thing this is indicative of how our staff puts student safety at the forefront".

The student removed from school was not identified. Dismissal from classes on Friday proceeded, as normal.
