LINCOLN - Lincoln Police have arrested a man for a stabbing that left the victim with life-threatening injuries.

LPD says officers responded to 48th and O Streets around 1 a.m. Wednesday and found a 52-year-old victim unconscious with multiple stab wounds to his neck, chest, and hands.

Authorities say the man was taken to the hospital and is still in life-threatening condition.

Police say officers followed a trail of blood to a nearby apartment, where they found 26-year-old Lawson Ballard who was covered in blood.

Ballard told police he hired the man to be a private investigator, and when the victim asked for more money, Ballard believed he was being scammed.

He told police he was acting in self-defense during a fight over the knife.

Ballard was arrested for first-degree assault.
