Sidney's senior class finishes volleyball careers with 141 wins and a state championship

The Cowgirls (38-6), who were making their second-ever state championship appearance, won the Class 1A Tournament with a 25-17, 23-25, 25-12, 25-23 (3-1) victory over No. 6 Wapsie Valley.

CEDAR RAPIDS - Senior Maddy Duncan finished with 17 kills and 17 digs, Senior Olivia Larsen had 51 assists and 15 digs, and the top-ranked Sidney volleyball team claimed their first state volleyball championship Friday night at the U.S. Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids.

The Cowgirls (38-6), who were making their second-ever state championship appearance, won the Class 1A Tournament with a 25-17, 23-25, 25-12, 25-23 (3-1) victory over No. 6 Wapsie Valley. 

Senior Kelsie Hobbie added 15 kills, 13 digs and five blocks. Junior Paige Smith led Sidney with a career-high 24 digs. Senior Presley Brumbaugh chipped in eight kills and 10 digs. Junior Lily Johnson finished with 19 digs. 

Hobbie, Larsen and Duncan were named to the Class 1A All-Tournament Team. Hobbie earned captain status.

Seniors Brumbaugh, Duncan, Hobbie and Larsen finished their careers with just 19 total losses.
