Beatrice man suspected of fraudulent use of credit cards

BEATRICE – Beatrice Police have arrested a 34-year-old Beatrice man for allegedly ringing up over $10,000 in unauthorized charges on his parents’ credit cards.
David Barrett was arrested Thursday, on suspicion of unauthorized use of a financial transaction device. He had been booked into the Gage County Jail, last October 19th, for a probation violation, possession of a controlled substance and obstruction.
Police had been investigating reports of Barrett allegedly stealing money through charges made on four different credit cards. The total amount of the charges came to $10,375. Barrett is suspected of gaining access to credit card numbers, even though accounts had been closed, reopened and numbers had been changed.
Prior to the theft report, an officer had spoken with Barrett about a complaint he had made that he purchased several items from Amazon, and wanted to report they had been stolen. The items included jewelry and perfume.
Police said the unauthorized charges were made to Amazon, Google, Microsoft, Walmart, MoneyGram and several others.
Police obtained video and pictures, along with purchase printouts in their investigation.
