New hotel project underway in Gering
GERING - A new hotel construction project is underway in the City of Gering.
It will be called Hotel 21; which will be placed right beside the Weborg 21 Centre building.
The Weborg 21 Centre building was purchased back in 2014-2015.
Once the building next door became available, it was purchased in 2016.
The decision for the space was between a large parking lot or a new hotel.
“My brainstorm came that since we have an event venue, we needed to have a place for them to stay,” said Lisa Weborg, Owner/Manager of Weborg 21 Centre and Steel Grill. “From the very beginning, I was able to walk through and say, ‘Let’s keep this!’ ‘Let’s keep this!’ ‘Let’s keep this!’ Then, we decided on a hotel.”
A Construction Engineer came and categorized the building as a bomb shelter.
It has 12 inch thick concrete walls, 16 inch floors and makes a great tornado shelter.
Hotel 21 will have 32 rooms including suites and extended stays.
The extended stays will have kitchens, dining rooms, two large bedroom suites and a living room.
The location of 10th Street makes it a little bit of a challenge because of the majority of Scottsbluff and Gering residents live on the outside.
With the conducted feasibility study, it showed that the Panhandle needs more hotels for the business travels during the week.
Weborg is looking to add a floral shop and gentlemen’s salon within the hotel.
Weborg hopes that someone will show interest in creating a floral shop inside.
The gentlemen’s salon will provide haircuts, hot shaves and shoe shines.
Hotel 21 will create jobs for Cleaners and Front Desk Associates.
The timeline makes it tricky with Nebraska’s unpredictable weather so they hope to have it open by late 2020.
