BEATRICE – A collision at a construction zone near Adams, Nebraska Friday afternoon injured one person.

Gage County Sheriff’s deputies report the accident happened on Nebraska Highway 41, west of the 34-C junction.

Authorities says a semitrailer truck driven by 63-year-old Jeffrey Neal, of Hastings, was eastbound on 41.  After stopping at a construction zone traffic light, the truck was hit in the rear by an eastbound Pontiac G-6, driven by 20-year-old Hayley Schroeder, of Firth.

Schroeder told law officers she and a passenger were looking at deer in the field to the south, when she looked forward, saw the stopped truck and could not avoid colliding with it.

The passenger in the car, 18-year-old Kaleigh Koehler, of Springfield, was taken to Bryan Health West hospital in Lincoln, for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.  Deputies said restraints were being used in both the car and semitrailer truck.  The front airbags of the Pontiac deployed, during the collision.

Gage County Sheriff’s deputies say the accident happened at 1:05 p.m, Friday.  Adams Fire and Rescue also responded to the scene.
