(Peru, Neb.) – As she has done in every race for the past two seasons, senior Julia Zurek (Louisville) led the Peru State cross country team in the Heart of America Athletic Conference (Heart) Championship on Saturday. The conference meet was held in Fayette, Mo., and hosted by Central Methodist.
Zurek finished 46th overall and 45th for scoring purposes in a time of 22:22.06.

As a team, the Bobcats finished 11th out of 13 teams with a total score of 307.
Mount Mercy (Iowa) was the team champion with a score of 49. The other team finishes included: second – Baker (Kan.) – 54; third – Benedictine (Kan.) – 56; fourth – MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.) – 86; fifth – Graceland (Iowa) – 139; sixth – Central Methodist – 153; seventh – Evangel (Mo.) – 211; eighth – Grand View (Iowa) – 231; ninth – Clarke (Iowa) – 240; tenth – William Penn (Iowa) – 252; 11th – Peru State; 12th – Missouri Valley – 343; and 13th – Culver-Stockton (Mo.) – 356.
Hailee Lynn (Malcolm) was Peru State's second-best finisher as she was 75th/62nd in 24:08.57. Marissa Wingert (Panama, Iowa) was just 12 second behind Lynn in 24:20.57 to finish 78th/65th.
Jacey Sutton (Wahoo) finished 80th/67th in 24:27.25 while Alyssa Brink (Oakland, Iowa) was Peru State's other counting runner as she was 83rd/68th in 24:51.35.
Also running for Peru State were: Sophia Schroeder (Ravenna) – 84th/69th in 25:10.38; Brealynn Wattier (Malcolm) – 92nd/74th in 25:59.51; Aubrey Wattier (Malcolm) – 93rd in 26:05.29; Annika McDonald (Tecumseh) – 102nd in 27:44.96, and Makalah Scheele (Beatrice) – 106th in 29:28.87.
Zurek and Sutton are the lone seniors on the team. The remaining eight will be joined by two red-shirts and some additional recruits for coach Katy Billings next season.
