HARTINGTON, NE — A northeast Nebraska man accused of attacking a man with a knife and leading police on a chase is facing eight felony charges in Cedar County District Court.

The eight charges against 44-year-old Kevin Haug were bound over to District Court after a hearing in County Court on Wednesday.  Haug waived his preliminary hearing for charges of first-degree assault, two weapons charges, assaulting an officer using a vehicle, avoiding arrest and criminal mischief.

Judge Douglas Luebe found probable cause to carry over charges of attempted first-degree murder and attempted burglary after a pair of preliminary hearings.

Court records show Haug is accused of attacking a man with a knife in Fordyce on July 2nd.  Authorities say Haug fled the scene and later led law enforcement on a high-speed pursuit that ended in a two-vehicle crash.

The stabbing victim was treated for injuries to his head, hip, and abdomen.

Haug is being held in the Madison County Jail on $1 million bond.  He is due in District Court on November 22nd at 9:00 a.m.
