HUMPHREY - It was a cold and windy day as #1 Humphrey St. Francis hosted #8 Lawrence Nelson in the second round of the Class D2 Playoffs. The Raiders jumped out to an early lead over the top seed in the East. 270 pound Senior Kyle Golay scored on a direct snap early in the first to put Lawrence Nelson up 14-6, but the Raiders would be held scoreless for the rest of the game.

Humphrey Saint Francis responded on the next possession, with Taylor Wemhoff taking the toss, switching fields and scoring. Quarterback Trevor Pfeifer ran in the conversion to knot things up at 14 a piece... but the Flyers were just getting started.

Wemhoff scored again on the next drive, and Humphrey Saint Francis led 22-14 at the end of the first quarter. The second quarter was much of the same, with Wemhoff scoring again, and the Flyers building a 46-14 lead at the break.

The home team was able to find shelter for the half, while Lawrence Nelson was left huddling out in the cold. Not surprisingly, the thawed out Flyers stayed hot in the second half, forcing a fumble on the opening drive, and scoring on a QB sneak a few plays later.

The Flyers added one more TD for good measure, beating Lawrence Nelson 60-14. They will travel to Plainview next week to play a Pirates team that just knocked off Johnson-Brock, the defending state champions. That game will be played next Tuesday.
