Controlled Burn Gets Out Of Control In Merrick County

MERRICK COUNTY - Fire crews battled a controlled burn in Merrick County Saturday morning which got out of control.

The burn was taking place in a field near the town of Chapman along H Road. The fire was reportedly on the west side of a dirt road when it became out of control, spreading to the east side into some trees.

Witnesses at the scene say a spark broke loose and ignited several other fires around the burn area. Central City Rural Fire was among the responding agencies to put out the fire.
