Tarkio River to rise over 21 feet by Wednesday evening

TARKIO - A flood warning is in effect for the Tarkio River at Fairfax until Friday morning.

Minor flooding is occurring with the river stage at 17.4 feet as of 7:15 a.m. Wednesday. Flood stage is 17 feet. Moderate flooding is in the forecast.

The river will continue to rise to near 21.2 feet by Wednesday evening. The river will fall below flood stage late Thursday morning.

River levels:

• At 19.0 feet...Flooding begins in the vicinity of Corning.
• At 18.0 feet...U.S. Highway 59 north of Fairfax begins to flood.
• At 17.0 feet...Low-lying farm fields begin to flood.
