Beatrice wins third straight match with sweep of Fairbury Thursday

FAIRBURY - Melissa Carper had one goal for her Beatrice team coming into Thursday's match with Fairbury.
Don't be "as slow to start" as they were on Tuesday in wins over South Sioux City (2-13) and Omaha Roncalli (7-6).
Beatrice (8-4) started fast, and fended off a late charge from Fairbury in set 3 to sweep the Jeffs, 3-0 (25-12, 25-16, 25-23) on Thursday night at Fairbury High School.
The Lady O have now won three straight and six of their last seven.
"(Fairbury) is better than Roncalli and South Sioux City," Carper said. "So, kudos to them on that. It wasn't just a rivalry, but we knew (Fairbury) has athletes. We didn't play them, but we got to see them this summer."
Offensively, Beatrice was very balanced with six players recording multiple kills. Senior outside hitter Devyn Burroughs led the charge with 10 kills and one block, unofficially.
Junior outside hitter Sadie Glynn had six kills and a team-high three aces. Senior defensive specialist Mariah Allen ended with six kills, an ace and a block. Junior right-side hitter Kaitlyn Church also had six kills along with two aces.
"We did really well," Burroughs said. "We communicated really well. We came out with energy, which is what wea are pushing to do this season, which is really good that we're striving to do better in not just our performance, but as a team. I think we executed that really well with keeping the energy up and getting up right away."
After a 2-3 start, Beatrice has found their footing with only one loss since Sept. 14. A road sweep over Fairbury, Burroughs said, can only add to the Lady O's confidence and momentum.
"Any win is going to boost our energy," she said. "We have that confidence, and the next game, we want to start with that confidence right away instead of thinking about the last game. Coming in with a win makes us feel better and makes us mesh as a team even more."
Beatrice has the weekend off before traveling to Omaha to face Omaha Concordia (3-13) and Bennington (3-13) in a triangular on Oct. 1. starting at 5 p.m.
The Lady O swept Bennington 2-0 in a triangular back on Sept. 7.
While Beatrice will enjoy a weekend off, they'll be busy in early October with two games on the first, Seward and York Oct. 3, G.I. Northwest and Hastings Oct. 8 and Gross Catholic on Oct. 10.
Like Burroughs, Carper believes this current hot streak Beatrice is on could boost the team's confidence moving forward while also recognizing that none of the upcoming matches are 'gimmes.'
"We basically have 10 games in 10 days," Carper said. "(The win streak) builds confidence in every aspect. Our setter (Jaiden Coudeyras) is confident in moving the ball, which is why three hitters had equal amounts of kills. We know these next few games, which could be wins, are not going to be easy."
