Beatrice Elected Officials Amend Past Year's City Budget
Beatrice City Council members formally account for additional spending in past year's city budget
BEATRICE – The Beatrice City Council has approved amendments to the past year's budget of the city, accounting for donations and unanticipated spending.
The council approved the amendments following a public hearing, Monday night...involving items such as a new batting facility at Hannibal Park, a new splash pad and downtown redevelopment expenses.
Administrator Tobias Tempelmeyer says other expenses included the purchase of property for a new fire station and increased spending for purchased electrical power.
The city Monday closed on one of the property sales for the fire station….the land on which Jan’s Cleaners business has been located.
Elected officials also approved acquiring additional property from owners of land along the planned Hannibal Park Trail, to be built next year…a roughly 30-foot strip of land along property owned by the Beatrice School District.
Property owners were asked to approve transfer of the property for the trail, through negotiations with the Nebraska Department of Transportation. Private property owners are receiving a total of $8,380. The Beatrice Public School District will receive $27,610 for the district’s portion of the property. Any private structures on the property will have to be relocated.
The trail project is subject of a state bid-letting, October 3rd. 80-percent of the trail construction is being paid through a transportation grant, with the city paying the remaining 20%.
In other action before the city council Monday night…..the police department building will be getting a new roof. The bid of Ciaccio Roofing was approved, totaling just under $95,000.
The city council also approved a $10,000 engineering services agreement with Terracon Consultants, for a soil compaction study at the site of the new fire station.
Two reappointments were affirmed by the city council. Linda Ament and Krista Wiedel will continue to serve as members of the Civil Service Commission.
