SPRINGFIELD - The Platteview football team posted a shutout in front of a boisterous home crowd Friday night, cruising to a 42-0 victory over Nebraska City.

The Trojans led 35-0 at the half behind two long Braden Johnson touchdown passes to Alex Draper. With 7 seconds remaining in first quarter, the Trojans blocked the Pioneers punt attempt, and Kayden Wallis-Collier returned the ensuing loose ball 9 yards to the house. Tobius Nixon and Jed Christensen scored on short yardage handoffs in the second quarter.

The continuous clock rule paved the way for a breezy second half. Platteview backup quarterback Jared Kuhl found pay dirt on a 6 yard option keeper late in the fourth for the latter frame's only points.

Landon Adams led the Pioneers in rushing, while Eli Southard was the high receiving man.

Nebraska City (1-2) returns to action next Friday at Raymond Central. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. on Otoe County Country (105.5 FM, 1600 AM, and newschannelnebraska.com).
