Fairbury City Museum reports strong numbers in annual report to city council
Since last September, the museum has had 1,369 visitors. That’s more than double the 665 from last year. The museum has also received more than $1,100 in freewill donations in the last year.
FAIRBURY - The Fairbury City Museum gave their annual report to the Fairbury City Council on Tuesday night.
President of the museum, Mick Suey, reported overall positive numbers for the museum. Since last September, they’ve had 1,369 visitors. That’s more than double the 665 from last year. The museum has also received more than $1,100 in freewill donations in the last year.
The museum gets $40,000 of funding each year. They're not asking for an increase, but Suey requested that curator, PaRen Sims, get an increase in hours per week from 25-27, and an increase in salary.
"She works very hard, and is very deserving of a raise," he said.
The museum is also gearing up to host their eighth annual car show, which will be held at the downtown square this year.
"We had 80 cars last year, and we're hoping for 100 or more this year," Suey said. "We've teamed up with the Fairbury Community Foundation to help celebrate our 150th birthday this year."
The museum, along with the Fairbury Community Foundation, are looking to raise about $4,000 for the car show mainly through donations and sponsors.
Suey said there’ll be about 17 vendors on hand for the car show, which is Saturday, Sept. 14. It coincides with Fairbury’s 150th birthday celebration weekend.
