A viral animal disease is back in Nebraska
The Nebraska Department of Agriculture has confirmed a case of Vesicular Stomatitis (VS) in a horse in Lincoln County.

LINCOLN - The Nebraska Department of Agriculture has confirmed a case of Vesicular Stomatitis (VS) in a horse in Lincoln County.
According to a news release, this is the first case of VS in Nebraska since 2015. VS is a viral disease which primarily affects horses and cattle, but can also affect sheep, goats, and swine.
According to the release, there are no USDA approved vaccines for VS. The Nebraska Department of Agriculture has quarantined the livestock on the affected farm. That farm will remain under quarantine
for at least 14 days after the last affected animal starts developing blisters.
The VS virus is transmitted by infected bugs or contact between infected animals.
