BEATRICE – A Beatrice man was sentenced to state prison during a Fairbury hearing, on Thursday.   20-year-old Darrian Norman will serve a two-year state prison term, after being convicted of attempted possession of a deadly weapon by a prohibited person.

District Judge Vicky Johnson also ordered Norman to serve 12 months post-release supervision.   Norman received credit off his prison sentence for 213 days spent in custody.

He was arrested following a Fairbury traffic stop of a car leaving a city park, last January 8th.  Officers found suspected drugs and a bag with two full magazines of 40-caliber ammunition, plus a pouch of loose ammunition on the floorboard.  Authorities say one of the persons in the car also had iron knuckles with a folding knife attached.  Norman was a convicted felon, at the time….as was a second occupant of the vehicle.

In other cases in Jefferson County District Court, Judge Johnson sentenced 27-year-old Jared Schroeder, of Deshler, to 300 days in jail and 18-months post-release supervision for delivery of a controlled substance.  He received credit for 152 days spent in custody.

A Marysville, Kansas woman failed to appear for sentencing yesterday in Jefferson County District Court.  Judge Johnson issued a bench warrant for the arrest of 30-year-old Ashley Crow.  She was scheduled to be sentenced on a conviction of attempted possession of a controlled substance.
