Ahrens' homer helps North to Legion All-Star Game win
WAHOO, NE -- Wahoo's Trey Ahrens hit a two-run homer and the North squad beat the South 8-0 in the Wahoo Area Kiwanis Legion Baseball All-Star Game on Saturday night.
The game features 35 All-Star players from Class B and C American Legion teams. The players came from 16 different teams ranging from Crofton to Crete and Springfield to Overton. It was the 17th edition of the event.
Ahrens gave the North the lead in the second inning by belting a home run over the center-field fence. Those were the only runs they needed. North pitchers held the South to just four hits over nine innings.
The North added to its lead in the fifth. Aiden Urbom and Cade Lynam collected two-out hits to load the bases. Colin Lynam drove two runs in with a single to make it 4-0.
The North started the seventh inning strong. The first two batters reached on a walk and single to bring up Hunter Babe. The Springfield player ripped a double to drive in a run and give the North a five-run lead.
The onslaught continued in the eighth. The North took advantage of four walks to plate three runs and take an 8-0 advantage. Nate Hostetler, Cade Lynam and Collin Morrissey each recorded RBIs in the frame.
Ahrens was chosen as the Player of the Game.
