CRETE - The mayor of a southeast Nebraska town has been placed in hospice care as he battles cancer.

Family members of Crete Mayor Roger Foster tell our news partners at 1011 Now that Foster has been battling stage four lung cancer for over a year, and they expect that fight to be over soon.

The family has set up a Go Fund Me page to help with the cost of Foster's hospice treatment. The fundraiser had brought in over $13,000 as of Tuesday morning.

Foster has been the mayor of Crete since 2010. Crete's City Council President David Bauer is currently the acting mayor.
