WILBER - After Tecumseh stumped BDS on Tuesday night, the BDS Seniors knew what was in front of them Wednesday - win or go home.

Thing is, BDS (15-7) wouldn't know who they'd be playing in the Class C area 4 district championship until late in the day.

After Wymore/Diller-Odell (6-10) rallied for a 3-2 win over Tecumseh on Wednesday afternoon, the Wymore seniors ran out of rallies, falling to BDS 4-0 in the district title Wednesday night at Wilber Legion Memorial Park.

The win puts BDS in the Class C state tournament in Syracuse July 27-31.

As of Wednesday night, the bracket had not yet been released.

Even so, the excitement for BDS is real. This is their first trip to the state tournament since Bill Grote has been coaching.

"It feels great," he said. "Kids from a few different towns, and they played well together, and played better as we got toward the end of the year."

Bill's son, Hastings College baseball commit Jackson, willed BDS to victory on the mound, tossing a complete game shut out, allowing just two hits and two walks while striking out eight.

"I knew my team needed me and my arm felt good," Grote said. "It just felt good to put my team on my back, and do it for the community."

Offensively, BDS managed nine hits and scored three of their four runs in the final two innings.

John Christensen finished 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored and an RBI. Hunter Healey went 2-for-3 with a double and a RBI as well.

Turner Faxon started on the mound for Wymore and went six innings, surrendering three runs (two earned), seven hits and one walk. He also struck out one batter.

Wymore saw the ball decently well at the plate, but had nine groundouts and five flyouts to go with their eight strikeouts.

BDS also finished the game with no errors.

"That was a great game," Bill Grote concluded. "The defense played great behind (Jackson). It was a fun one."
