A chase that started Friday morning lasted until Saturday before officials were finally able to take two juveniles into custody.

According to the Knox County Sheriff's Department, around 6:45 Friday morning, officials found a car stolen from South Dakota in the middle of the Spur 54D just north of Highway 12. Officials then discovered another car was stolen from a nearby residence, and while officers were there, the car returned and sped west on Highway 12 towards Niobrara, Nebraska.

The officer followed the vehicle through Niobrara and south on Highway 14 towards Verdigre before going south on county road 521 Drive. The vehicle went around county barricades and warning signs of the “Walton” bridge being washed out and drove into a pasture where two people jumped out and ran on foot.

A Nebraska State Patrol helicopter and canine units were brought in along with additional manpower, but the search was unable to locate the suspects and was halted around 10 that night.

On Saturday Morning the search was back on, and an ATV was reported stolen in the general area and the suspects were contained along the Verdigre Creek.

A search along the creek ended with law enforcement taking one 15 year old male from South Dakota and one 16 year old female from Rural Niobrara into custody. The suspects were treated by the Verdigre Rescue Squad for dehydration and cuts and bruises.
