WEST POINT - A northeast Nebraskan will be spending decades in prison for his involvement in a 2017 murder.

29-year old Derek Olson was sentenced Thursday in Cuming County District Court to 42 to 64 years in prison for the stabbing death of Ernest Warnock at a rural Bancroft home in March of 2017.

Olson was convicted of second degree murder and arson charges related to the case.

Warnock was stabbed to death in his home, which was then burnt down the next day.

Olson maintained that while he was involved in the arson, he was not the one who fatally stabbed Warnock, arguing that his father, Jody Olson, was actually the one who applied the fatal attack during an argument that night.

Jody Olson has also been convicted for his involvement in the case. He will also be sentenced on Thursday.
