One man has died after being shot by a Bellevue police officer overnight.

Bellevue police went to a home near 30th and Sandra Streets, north of Childs Road, about 11:30 p.m. Thursday night to investigate a report of someone who was armed, police said. A woman called 911 and said her partner was drunk, armed and suicidal, police said.

As officers were heading to the call, they were told that shots had been fired, police said. When they arrived, officers heard shots near the home.

One officer was able to get the woman out of the home, police said. Shortly after that, police said, that same officer shot the armed man.

Bellevue Police Lt. Andy Jashinske, a department spokesman, said he didn't know how many shots were fired.

The man was taken in extremely critical condition to the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, where he died.

Neither the woman nor any police officers were injured, Jashinske said.

Officials said they will release the man's name after notifying relatives. The officer, whose name has not yet been released, has been placed on paid administrative leave, Jashinske said.

The La Vista Police Department is investigating the shooting with help from the Douglas County crime lab.
