BEATRICE – Property owners in Gage County wanting to protest their new valuation have just a few more days to file.

Gage County Board Chairman Erich Tiemann says valuation notices were mailed out earlier to property owners who had a change in their valuation.  Protests must be filed by the end of June, but since the final day falls on a weekend, property owners have through July 1st.

Tiemann says most of the increases are in residential property or acreages, while the trend for agriculture land, is a decline.

As of Thursday, Deputy Gage County Clerk Michelle Bloomquist said 106 protests had been filed.

According to figures recently released, total property valuation in Gage County was expected to decline by about 1.8% this year.   A decline in agricultural valuations was offset by the rise in residential and commercial valuations.

The filing period for homestead exemptions is also coming to a close at the end of the month.  The exemption is for elderly persons or disabled veterans who qualify.   Eligibility requirements are available by contacting your local county assessor’s office.
