It’s almost lights, camera, action for members of the Norfolk Youth Theater…

As they put the finishing touches on backdrops and squeeze in the last rehearsals for their upcoming performance…

The title of this year’s production is “Under the Stars: A Trio of Legends.”

And for the first time, the production will consist of all original scripts that were adapted by community members.

“This year  we actually have all original scripts that were adapted by community members and they are adaptations of Native American legends, so that’s kind of an exciting aspect this year to perform scripts that haven’t been performed before, as well as keeping some of that rich cultural aspect,” says Libby McKay, Director of the Norfolk Youth Theater.

Members of the Norfolk Youth Theater hope to wow audiences with their performance adaptation  of four different Native American legends, a unique theme to this year’s play.

“We were able to bring in another way for the community to be involved in the theater here in town and in this camp, specifically, by having these original scripts,” says McKay. “ I think we’re very fortunate to have members of the community with that skill-set and with that interest and passion who are [eager] to take on this challenge.”

The play will take place this Saturday at the Cox Theater and you can purchase tickets at the door or at the Norfolk Arts Center.
