WAVERLY - The Nebraska City Legion Baseball team gave up a three-run inning in the fourth, but had six-run and four-run innings of their own in a 12-4 victory over Waverly in the semi-finals of the Northern Baseball League Tournament Wednesday afternoon in Waverly.

Tyler Levy led the Post 8 Seniors at the plate. He went 3-4 with a double, two RBI's and a run scored. Max Chaney finished 2-2 with a homerun, three RBI's and three runs scored. Bryce Levy added two RBI's, a run scored and a double while going 2-3.

"Our hitting continues to improve," Head Coach James Widoe said. "We've really nailed down a defined approach I want our kids to have and they have really thrived. I'm really most proud of our base running and our execution. We're playing extremely well."

They finished with eight total hits.

Garrett Bassinger threw all five innings in the win. He surrendered four runs on three hits and struck out 8.

"Garrett threw the ball well," according to Widoe. "He had an inning where he struggled, but really got tough and rebounded."

Nebraska City (13-3) will play either Bennington or Omaha Roncalli in the league championship at 8 p.m. Thursday in Bennington.

They were scheduled to play Syracuse or Falls City in the Southeast Nebraska Baseball Conference Tournament Wednesday evening, but due to field conditions in Syracuse, the game was moved to Friday at 5:30. If they win, they'll play for the division championship immediately after.
