The deer tick, seen here, a known carrier of the disease has been found in the Metro area, according to the Douglas County Health Department.

Symptoms include fever, headache, fatigue, and a skin rash that forms a bullseye pattern.

Your advised to avoid tall grasses and shrubs, wear long pants and long sleeves, and apply DEET a common mosquito repellant.

If you find a tick on your body health officials say you should remove it and attempt to save it in a small container and contact the health department.

Infections are usually treated with anti-biotics and we are told most people recover completely.
