Five more Nebraska libraries have been selected to host one of four rotating innovation studios. La Vista, McCook, Superior, Nelson and Lied Pierce Public Libraries will host one of the four studios. They join 26 other libraries across Nebraska to host the studios.

Nebraska Library Innovation Studios is a technology-focused studio that will take over makerspaces of small-town libraries to bring certain technologies, such as 3-D printers to places where residents may not typically have access to them.

In a press release, the Nebraska Library Commission said the goal of the studios is to stimulate creativity and innovation and the exchange of ideas. They hope these studios can help to spur skills and economic development in the communities.

"I think it'll be great for the kids, but it will also be great for the adults," Lied Pierce Public Library Director Dawnn Tucker said. "Because of some of the equipment, you know, maybe kids will families will come in and make printed t-shirts for vacations or do woodworking signs to decorate their house."

A $530,000 grant from the Institute of Museum and Library services helped to make the program possible. The Nebraska Library Commission is also partnering with the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Nebraska Innovation Studio, Nebraska Extension, Regional Library System and the public libraries to put the program together.

According to the Library Commission's website, each selected library will host a studio for about 20 weeks.

The program started in 2017 and will wrap up in June of 2020. Below is a full list of what communities will host the studios and when they will host, according to the Nebraska Library Commission's website. (Dates are approximate)
