Moore Discusses Quail Run, Pawnee Plunge, and Other Columbus Park Updates

COLUMBUS - Columbus Public Property Director Doug Moore provided the Board of Parks Commissioners with updates on a variety of the City's parks during their Tuesday afternoon meeting.
Moore says that while the weather has caused a bit of a delay in its construction, the brand new Frontier Park is still moving along as scheduled. Construction has begun on a new restroom and storage building, which is anticipated to be done in September, and work will soon begin on a new playground and swing set as well.
"We are on the contractor's list to get to that (playground), so hopefully in the next two or three weeks they'll start construction on that," Moore said.
Work will also soon begin on the upcoming splash pad planned for Glur Park, with JEO Consulting Group currently creating its design. Moore says that the City is in the process of removing a handful of trees from the area where the splash pad will be installed, and the plan is for the pad to be finished before September.
With regards to other public property around Columbus, Moore provided an updated on the status of Quail Run Golf Course, saying that the City is still waiting to schedule a time to meet with a FEMA representative about providing assistance. Despite only having nine playable holes, Moore says that business has still been study on the course.
"We've noticed a dip, but we're still busy, we're doing everything we can on the north side of the course to keep it as nice as possible, so things are going well," Moore said.
Moore also provided a report on the Pawnee Plunge, saying that the Plunge has already had to close for four days since it opened this season due to the weather, more than the entirety of last season. Moore says that during the days when the Plunge is unable to operate, staff is hard at work making sure to keep it ready for the warmer days ahead.
"On days like this, we'll have some kids come in for a while to clean up and get some things going, then we'll send them home," Moore said. "But for the most part, on the warm days things have been going really well, but when you get to days like today where it's rainy and chilly we're going to close the facility because we're not going to get enough people out there to make it work."
The Pawnee Plunge is scheduled to be open at its regular hours on Wednesday, barring any unforeseen complications from the weather.
