Faith Regional Health Services was given a gift from For the Girls Norfolk, on Thursday. And that gift was a check for $67,800. The For the Girls Foundation is an organization whose soul goal is to help women win the fight against breast cancer and Dr. Kinzie Norris explains that that is exactly what this check will do.

“The majority of the check will be for breast surgery localization on non-palpable tumors,” Dr. Norris said.

“This is for both breast cancer and non-cancer patients. In the past, we've had to use a wire localization, which has a risk of dislodgment and it has to be done right before surgery. So this new technology will help our patients have less distress and fewer procedures right before the date of surgery and have a much more accurate surgery.”

The technology Dr. Kinzie refers to is known as the Magseed Injectable Marker. The marker is a magnet placed near the area with cancer to help doctors locate any additional tissue areas that may need removal. By doing this, it eliminates any extra procedures and radiation to the patient.

“So I've been advocating for this since I moved here, so it's very meaningful to me,” Dr. Kinzie said. “I think it's going to make the whole process a lot easier on patients and surgeons as well.”
