COLUMBUS - If you have ever considered buying a new electric vehicle, now may be the time to do so. The Nebraska Public Power District has announced three incentives for customers buying electric cars or accessories. These incentives are in the form of hundreds or even thousands of dollars. This is a move NPPD says aligns with its company culture, while pleasing consumers.
“We are owned by the consumers that we serve and I think the trends are very clear… folks want cleaner energy and we want to accommodate that” explains NPPD President and CEO Pat Pope.
The incentives offered are $4,000 for purchase of new battery electric vehicle, $500 to go toward an electric vehicle charger, or $100 dollars for those building a house that wire it to accommodate a future charging station. This encourages even the most skeptical Nebraskans to give electric vehicles a shot.
Pope says, “NPPD customers like to have things proven to them”, adding that advancements will begin to appeal to folks.
The vehicles have already picked up steam, even in Nebraska’s more rural communities.
Executive Director of the Nebraska Environmental Trust Mark Brohman says, “We have seen a very open arms approach in small towns all across the state.”
As electric vehicles continue to improve and advance, popularity is expected to skyrocket.
Brohman says, “I think you will see the numbers double each year starting real soon. We are already seeing a major impact in Nebraska, and I think it will continue to grow.”
