Three Beatrice Officers Awarded Meritorious Service Medals
BEATRICE - Three Beatrice Police Officers have been awarded meritorious service awards for their actions involving a person suffering mental health issues.
Beatrice Police Chief Bruce Lang awarded Sergeant Doug Coon and Officers Derek Hosick and Zachary Smith medals for their response to an incident the evening of last November 26th, involving a 9-1-1- call and an irrational man, suffering from a mental illness breakdown.

Nominations were brought to a commendations board, which recommended the medals. Lang says police are often put in places that they must solve problems society hasn't been able to do.
